Lipscomb Bisons Betting Preview
The Bisons have six games in the bag so far this year, and they’ve been unable to meet or stay above the .500 mark in that time. Lipscomb started out with a string of losses, falling to Vanderbilt, Mercer and UNC Asheville in succession. Following a blowout win over Bryan TN, the Bisons fell versus Belmont in the next game. Their sixth outing of the year was another win however, as Lipscomb took out Western Carolina in a blowout. That would give the Bisons a 2-4 run across the first half-dozen games of the season.
In the Western Carolina matchup on Saturday, the Bisons went into the locker room with a 34-23 edge. Lipscomb kept it going in the second half on a 49-39 run and took the eventual victory 83-62. Tops in scoring was Grant Asman with 22 points and two rebounds. Ethan Duncan added 18 points with five rebounds in 20 minutes and Ross Candelino had 12 points, five boards and two assists along the way.
Marshall Thundering Herd Betting Preview
Over on the Marshall side, they’ve had some better luck through their first half-dozen games this year. The Herd won three straight right out of the gate. Those wins came versus UMass, Toledo and Elon in succession. Marshall took their first loss of the year versus Virginia on November 15, but since then they’ve won consecutive games. Following a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Herd took out Mercyhurst in game six. That makes for a 5-1 run across six games so far for Marshall.
The Herd had a modest 27-23 lead at halftime on Mercyhurst in their latest matchup on Sunday. Marshall hit a 42-37 run from there however and won it 69-60 in the end. Jalen Speer was tops on the team with 21 points, six boards and six assists. Caleb Hollenbeck was the only other player to finish in double-figures with 12 points and four rebounds, but Matt Van Komen added 13 boards with nine points in 25 minutes of work during the win.

Lipscomb vs Marshall Prediction
I’ll lean toward Marshall. I’d like to see the Herd play a little better than they did over the weekend versus a pesky Mercyhurst team, though. Marshall ended up shooting 41.5 percent from the field in that one, but did better from 3-point range (41.4 percent on 12-of-29) and the line (81.3 percent on 13-of-16). The rebounding was good (a 36-29 advantage) but Marshall got outscored in the paint pretty badly 34-18. Prior to that 69 points, the Herd had scored 78 or more points in every game this year.
As for Lipscomb, they played pretty well versus a middling Western Carolina team in their last matchup. The Bison shot 45.7 percent from the field with a 34-30 rebounding edge and 23 team assists. The Bison have a few pretty good scoring outings this year; they’ve hit 77 or more points in three of six. In the other three however, Lipscomb has been below 69 points. I don’t think they’ll keep a relative pace on Marshall.
