Lipscomb vs Iowa Prediction

I’m likely going to take a stab on Lipscomb here, but you’ll also likely be able to argue it either way. The Bisons have some key talent coming back to the roster this season in Mateo Esmeraldo and Titas Sargiunas, both of whom could average double-figures in scoring this season. Esmeraldo ranked second in the country last year with a 4.37 assist-to-turnover ratio, and that kind of ball control will be key in the tricky upcoming games. Along with rotation piece Or Ashkenazi and win Kennedy Okpara, the Bisons return a good chunk of the talent from their 19-win season last year and should hit the ground running.

As for Iowa, they lost a lot of star power with Bennett Stirtz departing during the offseason. That said, the Hawkeyes retain three of their five starters from last year and plenty of depth behind them. Iowa does need a few go-to guys to develop from all those names however, and whether or not that happens will be instrumental in navigating a tough conference schedule this season. The Hawkeyes should be able to control this opener pretty well, but I don’t quite think they’ll break out for a dominant cover in the first game as they try and find their identity in 2026-27.

Lipscomb Bisons Betting Preview

Last year in head coach Kevin Carroll’s first season at the helm of the team, the Bisons managed a pretty good run. They went 19-13 overall with a 12-6 stretch of games in the Atlantic Sun Conference, which put the team behind only Central Arkansas, Austin Peay and Queens in the standings. The Bisons finished off the regular season with a 4-2 run but then got knocked out of the ASUN Tournament in their first game versus Florida Gulf Coast, falling 77-53.

Looking ahead to the 2026-27 campaign, the Bisons have Carroll back for his second year. He’s got two very important returnees on the squad in senior guards Mateo Esmeraldo and Titas Sargiunas. Esmeraldo managed 9.9 PPG last year and Sargiunas had 9.7 PPG. If all goes according to plan this season, they’ll be Lipscomb’s best players on the floor.

Iowa Hawkeyes Betting Preview

Over on the Hawkeyes’ side, they were able to do some major damage in the non-conference schedule last year but otherwise got lost in a crowded Big Ten. Iowa went 24-13 overall with a 10-10 run in the conference which put them somewhere in the middle of the standings. The Hawkeyes fell to Ohio State in the second game of the Big Ten Tournament, then beat Clemson, Florida and Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament before a loss to rival Illinois.

This year Iowa enters the second season for head coach Ben McCollum. He’ll lose a bit of talent from last year, including forward Alvaro Folgueiras (transferred to Louisville) and guard Bennett Stirtz (drafted by the Grizzlies). Guys like Cooper Koch (7.8 PPG) and Tate Sage (6.1 PPG) will have to step up and provide more production in their absence.
