Florida Gulf Coast vs UCF Prediction
UCF will have the best player on the floor and should pull away at some point, but this is a thick line in a battle for two teams that said goodbye to tons of production. UCF also has scoring issues often and isn’t a team I’m excited to lay a massive number on. UCF sometimes plays prison ball, and while it leads to wins, covering these sexy numbers can be difficult.
Also a bigger game for Florida Gulf Coast, who has a chance to make a statement to a bigger in-state program. I’ll take a shot with the points and the Eagles.
Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Betting Preview
Florida Gulf Coast won 16 games last season and enters year five under coach Patrick Chambers. Florida Gulf Coast hasn’t made the big dance since the 2016-17 season.
Darren Williams returns after averaging 6.2 points and 1.9 rebounds, while Tristen Guillouette averaged 3.4 points and 3 rebounds. George Washington III averaged 0.4 assists per game, and Gabe Tanner played in 149 minutes last season. Florida Gulf Coast says goodbye to its top six scorers from last season, so there’s a clear adjustment period going on here. Transfers Justin Houser, Tristen Guillouette, and CJ Outlaw should see the floor often. Still, there’s a lot of new faces, and it may take time to get rolling in what’s been a more competitive A-Sun as of late.
UCF Knights Betting Preview
UCF made the big dance last season and enters year 11 under coach Johnny Dawkins. UCF hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years since the 2004-05 season.
The Knights were able to bring back their best player, Riley Kugel, who averaged 14.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. John Bol returns after averaging 5.9 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Carmelo Pacheco averaged 4.6 points and 1.3 rebounds. Elijah Hulsewe played in 80 minutes last season, and he’s the only other returning player from last year’s team. UCF lost four of its top five scorers from last year’s team that made the big dance. Dior Johnson comes over from Tarleton State after averaging 24 points on 51.8 percent shooting. UCF has two legit top-level players capable of making a strong push in a competitive Big 12 and making another case for a tournament come March.
