Over on the Western Michigan side, they’ve had a choppy season. The Broncos started out on a 2-4 run with losses to Northwood MI, Campbell, South Dakota and Ohio State in that time. Western Michigan has since gone a better 3-2 with wins over Mount St. Mary’s, Southern Indiana and SIU Edwardsville mixed among losses to Valparaiso and Iowa. That gives the Broncos a 5-6 run through 11 games so far.

In the Iowa game on Sunday, the Broncos were demolished 52-16 in the first half alone. Western Michigan didn’t end up getting any closer from there in a 91-51 blowout loss. Carson Vis had 11 points with three boards in 18 minutes and Jalen Griffith added 11 points with five assists. Jayden Brewer had 10 points with four rebounds in the loss as well.

Buffalo shot just 39 percent from the field in that defeat with a 32-22 deficit in the paint and 13 turnovers. The good news is that the Bulls are scoring well this year, with a nice 69 or more points in all but one game so far (66 in a win over DePaul). The bad news is that they’ve lost two of the last three.

As for Western Michigan, they weren’t going to do much on the road versus a good Iowa team in their last game—and they didn’t. The Broncos shot just 29.8 percent from the field while giving up 55.9 percent on the other side, and got outmuscled in the paint 38-22 alongside 13 turnovers. That gives the Broncos fewer than 59 points in three of the last six games, with all three being losses.
