Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Virginia Tech has been mired below the .500 mark in the record column for most of the year. After winning their first three games, the Hokies lost to Penn State, Jacksonville, Michigan, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Pittsburgh in the next half dozen outings. A 5-3 run came next featuring wins over North Carolina A&T, Navy, Miami, Cal, and NC State, then a three-game losing streak to Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. Since then it’s been a 3-3 run for the Hokies. They’ve beaten Florida State, Virginia, and Notre Dame in that time with losses otherwise to SMU, Virginia, and Boston College. The result so far through 26 games has been an 11-15 overall record for Virginia Tech.Â
In their latest matchup Tuesday versus Boston College, the Hokies came out of the locker room with a 26-11 deficit. Virginia Tech didn’t get any closer in the end, hitting a 28-25 run the rest of the way for a 54-36 loss. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Mylyjael Poteat with 10 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Tobi Lawal chipped in with 10 rebounds, two steals, one assist, and seven points in 29 minutes of work during the loss as well.Â
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview
Over on the Miami side, they’ve struggled for most of the season themselves. The Hurricanes fell versus Drake, Oklahoma State, VCU, Charleston Southern, Arkansas, Clemson, and Tennessee early in the year before finally getting a win over Presbyterian in mid-December. Losses to Mount St Mary’s, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Wake Forest, Duke, SMU, Stanford, Cal, and Virginia came next, then wins over Notre Dame and Syracuse around another loss to Louisville. Since then Miami has fallen in consecutive games versus Pitt and Florida State, giving the team a 6-20 record through their first 26 outings of the season.Â
Matched up against Florida State on Wednesday, the Hurricanes held a 31-31 tie at the break. Miami was outscored 43-35 the rest of the way, resulting in a 74-66 loss on the road. Lyn Kidd managed to double up in the defeat with 14 points, 11 boards, and two assists. Matthew Cleveland added 14 points with six rebounds and two assists, while Brandon Johnson chipped in eight points with seven boards.Â

Virginia Tech vs Miami PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward Miami I suppose. There’s not much intrigue involved in this one with both teams struggling, though. The Hurricanes didn’t look terrible overall versus Florida State in their latest loss. That said, Miami also coughed up 16 turnovers for 16 Seminoles points during a pretty sloppy effort. That gives the Hurricanes consecutive losses with fewer than 67 points scored in each of those defeats.Â
Miami took a road loss 86-85 the last time these teams met up back on January 4. The Hurricanes shot great in that one (58.9 percent) but so did the Hokies (54.2 percent). Miami also lost the rebounding battle 29-23 while posting 11 turnovers for 17 Virginia Tech points. This rematch could go a lot of different ways, but if Miami can control their mistakes this time (and shoot fairly well) I think they’re in line for a cover.Â
