UAB Blazers Betting Preview
The Blazers kicked off the season with just one instance of consecutive wins over their first 11 outings. The good news, however, is that UAB has been much better since mid-December. A 5-6 opening run for the Blazers featured losses to Vermont, High Point, Longwood, Illinois State, Middle Tennessee, and Arkansas State. Since then, UAB has found its stride, peeling off seven wins in the last eight games. The lone loss at that time came from North Texas. Otherwise, it’s been wins over Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Tulsa, Tulane, Florida Atlantic, South Florida, and UTSA, giving the Blazers a 12-7 overall run through the first 19 games of the year.
Matched up against UTSA on Tuesday in their latest appearance, the Blazers came out of the break with a 38-32 edge. UAB was outpaced 46-43 the rest of the way but held on for the win 81-78 in the end. Leading the team in scoring during the victory was Yaxel Lendeborg, who doubled up on 24 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists with three blocks. Christian Coleman added 14 points with nine boards and two assists, while Efrem Johnson had 11 points.
Memphis Tigers Betting Preview
Over on the Memphis side, they had a spotty run that lasted from late November to late December, but other than that they’ve been quite the consistent team so far. The Tigers opened on a 6-0 run with wins over Missouri, UNLV, Ohio, San Francisco, UConn, and Michigan State. A 3-3 stretch ensued from there featuring losses to Auburn, Arkansas State, and Mississippi State among wins over LA Tech, Clemson, and Virginia. Since then it’s been a 6-1 stretch for the Tigers featuring a lone loss to Temple. The wins otherwise have come versus Ole Miss, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, East Carolina, Charlotte, and Wichita State. The result so far has been a 15-4 overall run through 19 games for Memphis.
In their Thursday game versus Wichita State, the Tigers held a 27-23 deficit at halftime. Memphis woke up in the second half though, surging on a 38-26 run toward an eventual win 61-53 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was PJ Haggerty with 22 points, five boards, four assists, and four steals. Tyrese Hunter added 16 points with three boards and four steals as the only other player on the team to finish in double-figures during the victory.

UAB vs Memphis Prediction
I’ll stick with Memphis here, but you could make a case either way. The Tigers’ performance against Wichita State isn’t winning them any adoration, but it was still a win. Memphis flailed through that game on a 32-29 rebounding deficit and 20 turnovers for 12 Shockers points. It was a sloppy game overall (42 total turnovers) and not a great way to perform in front of a home crowd. The 61 points was Memphis’ lowest total of the season so far. They’ll need a good bounce-back effort here in order to reassert their dominance.
UAB will provide a good opponent for the Tigers. The Blazers are hot on this five-game win streak, and they’ve scored 75 or more points in 10 straight. Memphis needs to get right to work on the scoreboard in Sunday’s matchup; we’ll see how it goes.
