The Redbirds kicked things off this year with a loss to TN-Martin 67-65 but then hit a winning streak over North Dakota State, Ohio, and Trinity Christian. Game five was another loss, however, this time 76-68 versus McNeese State.
On Saturday versus UAB, the Redbirds held a 43-39 deficit at the end of the first half. Illinois State came back on a 45-40 run the rest of the way, however, and took the eventual win 84-83. Johnny Kinziger led the team on 21 points with three assists.

Over on the Revolutionaries’ side, they began their 2024-25 campaign with four straight wins. Those came over Mercyhurst, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, and NJIT in succession before a 12-point loss to Kansas State.
George Washington recovered from their loss quickly with a win over Louisiana on Saturday. The Revolutionaries took a five-point edge into halftime, then closed on a 48-44 run for an 83-74 result. Darren Buchanan (17 points; 10 rebounds) and Rafael Castro (13 points; 11 rebounds) both doubled up.

Illinois State vs George Washington Prediction
I’ll probably lean toward George Washington. The Revolutionaries played pretty well overall on Saturday against a struggling Louisiana team. GW shot a tepid 40.4 percent from the field but also hit 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from outside with 35-of-42 (83.3 percent) from the line alongside 38 rebounds. The turnovers (18) were certainly an issue, however. That said, the Revolutionaries have scored at least 71 points in every game so far, and 82 or more in four of six.
As for Illinois State, they shot a blistering 56.6 percent against UAB in their last outing but also had their own turnover trouble (16). The Redbirds have scored 68 or more in five straight games themselves, so this one should be a pretty high total.
