Seton Hall Pirates Betting Preview
The Pirates have had quite an uneven season already. Seton Hall kicked things off with a win over Saint Peters, followed by losses to Fordham 57-56 and Hofstra 49-48. The Pirates would pick up another win over Wagner 54-28 last Saturday, though.
In Thursday’s matchup with VCU, the Pirates came back from a 28-25 deficit at the break to notch a 69-66 win in overtime. Tops in scoring was Chaunce Jenkins with 22 points and five boards. Isaiah Coleman put up 12 points with 10 boards for a double-double. Seton Hall will meet Monmouth, NJIT, and Oklahoma State after this game.
Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview
Over on the Vanderbilt side, they opened up the season on a tear. The Commodores demolished MD Eastern Shore 102-63 in their opener, then beat Southeast Missouri State, California, and Jackson State over the next three games.
In Thursday’s matchup with Nevada, Vanderbilt stayed unscathed—but it was a close one. The Commodores held a two-point lead at halftime and managed to thwart the Wolf Pack 73-71 in the end. Top scorer AJ Hoggard finished with 18 points, and Jason Edwards added 16 points in 29 minutes.

Seton Hall vs Vanderbilt Prediction
I might take a stab at Seton Hall here. The Pirates have been one of the more heart-attack-inducing teams in the nation so far, as almost every one of their games has been a tight, defense-heavy affair. In their OT win over VCU on Thursday, Seton Hall shot themselves in the foot with 16 turnovers and a rough 16-of-25 (64 percent) from the line. The Pirates’ saving grace was a dominant 52-32 edge on the boards (18-9 offensive) however, and they were able to gut out the victory. Seton Hall hasn’t hit 70 points all year, but they’ve held opponents to fewer than 67 points in every game (and fewer than 58 points in four of five outings).
As for Vanderbilt, they toughed out a win versus a scrappy Nevada team on Thursday despite getting out-rebounded 33-30 and missing seven of their 18 free throws (61.1 percent). The Commodores shot 47.5 percent from the field and benefitted from 16 Wolf Pack turnovers (while having 13 of their own). Vanderbilt has scored 73 or more points in every game so far and 85 or more in four of five. Between the Commodores’ offense and the Pirates’ defense, something’s got to give here. I think Seton Hall will prevail if all goes well. It’ll be a fun one regardless.
