Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview
Pittsburgh had a couple of pretty easy wins to start the season, dispatching Duquesne 61-9 and Central Michigan 45-17 in that pair. The Panthers would lose their next two outings though, falling to West Virginia 31-24 and Louisville 34-27. In the loss to the Cardinals, Pittsburgh posted just 14 first downs and went only 1-of-10 on third-down tries in addition to a whopping five turnovers and 20:38 in time of possession.
In their game versus Boston College last weekend, the Panthers didn’t have too many issues. Pittsburgh cruised to a 31-0 edge by the end of the first half and kept it rolling from there in an eventual blowout home win 48-7. QB Mason Heintschel logged a 30-of-41 line for 323 yards and four touchdowns, while leading rusher Ja’Kyrian Turner carried 12 times for 67 yards and a touchdown of his own. Kenny Johnson was the top receiver in the blowout win, catching nine balls for 115 yards and a touchdown.
Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview
Over on the Seminoles’ side, they kicked off the year with a tough game versus Alabama but managed to power out the win in the ned 31-17. The next two outings were wins over East Texas A&M 77-3 and Kent State 66-10, then came an overtime loss to Virginia on the road 46-38. In that defeat the Seminoles gained 514 total yards (256 rushing) with 6.3 yards per play but also had three turnovers. Virginia was able to go 7-of-13 on third downs and 2-of-2 on fourth downs as well.
Matched up against Miami last weekend, the Seminoles were in trouble with a 28-3 deficit by the fourth quarter. Florida State managed to make a game of it with 19 unanswered points from there but still lost 28-22 in the end. QB Thomas Castellanos was 25-of-45 for 272 yards, two scores and two interceptions. Castellanos would lead the rush as well, turning in 16 carries for 57 yards. Tops in receiving was Duce Robinson with six catches for 87 yards in the loss.

Pittsburgh vs Florida State Prediction
I’m going with Pitt. Sure, they were playing at home against a one-win Boston College team, but the Panthers looked really good last weekend. The defense gave up just 216 yards (27 rushing), 4.0 yards per play, 11 first downs and 4-of-12 on third-down tries alongside three takeaways. Pitt gained 503 yards on offense with 31 first downs and 9-of-17 on third downs. The eight penalties were just about the only thing to complain about. The Panthers have 24 or more points in all five games so far this year. Admittedly however, they’ve given up their fair share of points to good offenses in WVU and Louisville.
As for Florida State, they really couldn’t get anything going until late in their loss to Miami. It’s tough to win any three-turnover game, but the defense played well overall. This is a winnable game for FSU after a couple of defeats, so they’ve got to show up here. I still like Pitt to cover, though.
Andrew Jett's Pick: Pittsburgh Panthers +9.5
