Matt Vezza did most of the quarterbacking this time with 10-of-12 passing, 80 yards and a TD. Vezza also led the rush with 12 carries for 67 yards but Duncan Brune added 66 yards on 18 carries.

South Alabama Jaguars Betting Preview

Over on the South Alabama side, they kicked off their season with a matchup versus Southeastern Louisiana. The Jaguars managed to put up points in every quarter during that game, taking the win in dominant fashion 39-14. Bishop Davenport was 18-of-27 passing for 154 yards and a TD, and PJ Martin led the rushing attack on 69 yards and a TD off 18 totes.

Matched up against Tulane last weekend, the Jags had an early lead 10-0 after the first quarter. South Alabama traded punches in the second half but it wasn’t enough in a 28-24 loss. Davenport was 22-of-32 this time for 296 yards and two scores. Martin was tops in rushing once again for South Alabama, notching 73 yards and a TD on 15 carries.

Ohio vs South Alabama Prediction

I’ll stay with South Alabama. The Jags were able to rack up 478 total yards (182 rushing) in their tight loss to Tulane with 6.6 yards per play, 25 first downs and 10-of-16 on third-down tries. The defense gave up 424 yards (212 passing) and 8.3 yards per play but only 13 first downs. Tulane held the ball for just 22:20 as well.
As for Ohio, they get credit for gutting out a marathon of a game and getting the win over Jacksonville State last weekend. The Bobcats had just 97 passing yards and 4.0 yards per play on offense. The D surrendered 447 total yards, 6.2 yards per play, 22 first downs and 9-of-15 on third-down tries. This could be a pretty good matchup if both teams play well but I’ve got the Jags on a slight advantage cover-wise.

Andrew Jett's Pick: South Alabama Jaguars -4.5
