McNeese picked up a very easy win to start their season, but a game against that level of competition really doesn’t help them. The Cowboys will have a huge step up in difficulty for this matchup, but if they play well offensively, they may be able to keep it close.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are 0-1 this year after they lost to Rice by a score of 14-12 last week. Louisiana led 3-0 after the first quarter, but they trailed 14-6 at the half. The Ragin’ Cajuns scored a touchdown in the third quarter, but they failed to get the two point conversion, which ended up being the difference in the loss. Louisiana was out gained by a total of 254-239, went 7-15 on third downs, and lost the turnover battle by a total of 2-0 in the loss. Walker Howard went 10-22 for 88 yards and one interception, while Daniel Beale went 0-6 in limited action. Bill Davis rushed for 58 yards on 11 carries, while Shelton Sampson Jr. caught four passes for 59 yards in the game. The Louisiana defense recorded two sacks and seven tackles for loss in the defeat. 

Louisiana didn’t play well on the offensive side of the ball in their first game, but should be able to break out of that funk here. The Ragin’ Cajuns didn’t even break 300 total yards, but their defense was a bright spot. I expect Louisiana to play better in this game, but the quarterbacks have to show improvement, as they were awful in week one.

Louisiana comes into this matchup after scoring just 12 points to start their season and they will have to refocus to avoid an upset loss here. McNeese looked very good to open up their year, but they also played a very weak opponent. I think we could see a lower scoring game here, as I don’t have faith in this ULL passing attack, but I am going to take the points with McNeese.
