Coco Gauff will face Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round of the 2024 Paris Olympics tennis tournament. The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 28, 2024. Here's our Coco Gauff vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction.
Coco Gauff vs Ajla Tomljanovic Preview
Coco Gauff will be playing in her first Olympics. She missed the Tokyo showpiece three years ago because of COVID-19. This year, she is one of the favorites to clinch one of three medals in both singles and doubles.
Gauff has a great record on the clay courts of Roland Garros. She reached her first Grand Slam final in singles back in 2022 and lost to Iga Swiatek (also lost to the Pole in the semifinal of this year's tournament). Gauff won her first Grand Slam doubles title at the French Open last month while partnering Katerina Siniakova. She had the honor of being named joint flag bearer for the USA during the opening ceremony on Friday.
Ajla Tomljanvoic played at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago and was knocked out in the second-round stage by eventual Bronze winner Elina Svitolina. She prefers to play on quicker surfaces like hard and grass courts.
That is because she is a very aggressive baseliner with a huge serve, although most of her success on the lower tiers has been on clay. Tomljanovic has been injury-prone for the last few years, and she hasn't been able to have a consistent run of form.

Coco Gauff vs Ajla Tomljanovic Prediction
Gauff will have a great week in Paris. As the second seed, she will avoid her nemesis, Iga Swiatek, until at least the final match. She has played spectacular tennis on clay this season. A total of 12 match wins on the surface is a decent return. And that doesn't factor in her doubles form, where she became a Grand Slam champion competing at this year's Roland Garros. Tomljanovic has one win from her last four matches and was beaten by a player ranked outside the Top 100 in her most recent clay-curt tournament in Palermo. Back Gauff to saunter into the second round.
