Rebuild Year for the Vikings
JJ McCarthy is out until next year for the Vikings, so this year is all about rebuilding. Kirk Cousins is gone to the Atlanta Falcons, and that means Minnesota is turning to Sam Darnold. Darnold’s career hasn’t worked out to this point, but this is also the most talent he has ever had surrounding him. Justin Jefferson is healthy heading into the year and he has made it clear, that he doesn’t care who is throwing him the ball, he’s here to catch the football. Jordan Addison looks to build on last year. The Vikings signed Aaron Jones from the Green Bay Packers. Ty Chandler is the backup running back, but he should get plenty of touches too. Tight end TJ Hockenson is on the PUP and will miss this game.
On defense, there are a ton of question marks, especially with the secondary. Harrison Smith and Cam Bynum are back, but there are still a whole lot of question marks on that side of the ball. In this game, if the secondary starts getting burned this could end up being a very long game.
Why the Vikings Will Beat the Giants
- The Giants have lost eight of their last nine Week 1 games against NFC opponents.
- The Vikings have won each of their last five Sunday games played on the East Coast.
- The Giants have failed to cover the spread in 11 of their last 12 home openers.
- The road team has covered the spread in each of the Giants' last four Week 1 games.
- The Vikings have scored the first touchdown in each of their last seven Week 1 games.
- The Giants have lost the first half in each of their last seven season openers.
- The Vikings have won the first quarter in seven of their last eight games against the Giants.
Another Year of Daniel Jones for the Giants
Daniel Jones is under center again this year for the Giants and there are some major questions if he is the one who is going to get this team to the next step. The good news for Jones is he does have another playmaker out wide. Malik Nabers hopes to prove he is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and there is little doubt that Joens is going to look his way a whole lot. Wan’dale Robinson and Darius Slayton are going to be keys also. Gone is running back Saquon Barkley, and that is someone the team is going to really miss. Devin Singletary is the top running back, but after that, the production really falls off.
On defense, the Giants tried to make a couple of offseason moves they hope really helps. The Giants traded for Brian Burnes who is one of the better defenders in the league. Last season Kayvon Thibodeaux had 11.5 sacks and he’s going to need to be in the backfield all season if this Giants team wants to find success.
Minnesota Vikings vs San Francisco Giants Prediction
The Vikings are going to surprise some people and I think they could be a dark horse to make the playoffs. There is a lot of confidence around Sam Darnold and he’s going to have a huge game here. Daniel Jones is going to continue to be a turnover machine and he’s going to throw a couple of picks here. Even on the road, the Vikings are going to take control early, and they are going to win this game by at least a touchdown. Back the Vikings against the spread to cash here.
