The Loyola Ramblers and the Davidson Wildcats meet Thursday in Atlantic 10 Tournament college basketball action from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Here’s a Loyola vs Davidson prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Loyola vs Davidson pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.
Loyola Ramblers Betting Preview
Loyola could only muster five wins over their opening 14 games. A losing streak emerged over the next nine games, starting January 3 versus Dayton and finishing up on January 30 versus VCU. After a win versus La Salle, the Ramblers lost to Davidson, St. Louis, Fordham and St. Joseph’s before a win over Richmond. After a loss to Saint Louis and a win over George Washington came another victory versus Richmond.
On Wednesday versus the Spiders in the tournament matchup, Loyola was down by six points in the locker room at the break. The Ramblers got it together in the second half though, hitting a 43-29 run on the way to a comeback victory 75-67 to keep their season going. Joshua Ola-Joseph led the team on 26 points with seven rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes during the win.
Davidson Wildcats Betting Preview
Over on the Davidson side, they came out of the gate this year at 12-6 over the first 18 games, then lost three of four games in January/February. A 5-2 run came next for the Wildcats as they dispatched Loyola Chicago, Mid-Atlantic Christian, Richmond, Duquesne and La Salle. After a loss to Saint Joseph’s and a win over St. Bonaventure, the Wildcats are 19-12 overall this year.
Matched up against St. Bonaventure last weekend, the Wildcats held a slim 36-33 advantage on the scoreboard at the break. Davidson hit a 32-30 run in the second half, leading to an eventual 68-63 win on the road. The team’s leading scorer was Sam Brown with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Nick Coval added 11 points with two rebounds and six assists.
Loyola vs Davidson Prediction
I’ll lean toward Davidson. The Wildcats didn’t shoot very well (41.8 percent) in their latest win over St. Bonaventure last weekend, and also got outmuscled on the boards 35-32. Davidson did have a slight edge in the paint 30-26 and scored 15 points off 11 Bonnies turnovers. The 37 percent shooting allowed on defense was nice as well. The Wildcats have won three of their last four games but they’ve scored below 69 points in three of those.
These teams played twice this year with Davidson winning both: 79-64 on the road January 7 and 84-64 at home in the February 6 matchup. In that latest win the Wildcats shot a blazing 56.1 percent from the field with just six turnovers. That said, Davidson did give up a healthy 48.9 percent shooting on defense and got outmuscled on the boards 28-22. The Wildcats need to assert themselves right from the opening tip in this game, or Loyola could hang around and cause some issues.
