Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks Betting Preview
The Warhawks haven’t been able to string together consecutive victories so far this year, but the losses have come in droves. LA-Monroe opened on a 3-4 run with wins over Champion Christian, Ecclesia, and Northwestern State alongside losses to LSU, Tulane, Rice, and SE Louisiana. It’s been a 1-6 stretch since then with a lone win over AR-Pine Bluff in the middle of six losses versus North Alabama, Stephen F. Austin, TX-Arlington (twice), Houston Christian, and Old Dominion.
Back on December 21 versus the Monarchs, the Warhawks came out of halftime sporting a 32-29 deficit. LA-Monroe was able to force overtime with 39 points in the second but still lost 80-75 in a tough result. Jalen Bolden was the leading scorer among the starters with 17 points and five rebounds. Jacob Wilson came off the bench to lead the way on 23 points, six boards, and three steals, though. Makai Willis doubled up with 12 points and 11 rebounds as well.
Georgia Southern Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Eagles’ side, they opened up the season with a 5-2 stretch over their first seven outings. Georgia Southern lost to UNC Wilmington and William & Mary in that time, otherwise taking wins over Northern Illinois, Augusta, NC Central, Winthrop, and West Georgia. Georgia Southern is just 2-4 in their last six games with wins over only North Florida and Gardner-Webb. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Drake, VCU, Louisiana Tech, and Texas State.
Matched up against Texas State in their December 21 game, the Eagles were trailing 42-33 going into the locker room. Georgia Southern didn’t get any closer than that on a 41-28 second and fell in a blowout 83-61. Bradley Douglas came off the bench to lead the team with his 17 points and three boards. Also in double-figures was starter Nakavieon White with 12 points, two rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Why the Georgia Southern Eagles will win
- Louisiana-Monroe has lost seven of its last eight road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
- Georgia Southern has won six of its last seven night games against Louisiana-Monroe.
- Louisiana-Monroe has lost the first half in six of its last seven games.
LA-Monroe vs Georgia Southern Prediction
I’ll stick with Georgia Southern. The Eagles are sputtering lately, and this is a good chance to get back on track in a winnable game. Georgia Southern looked pretty miserable against a decent Texas State squad in their last outing, shooting just 30.8 percent from the field and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the line. The Eagles also got drilled on the glass 47-28 while giving up 53.6 percent shooting.
Georgia Southern hasn’t been scoring well during this 2-4 stretch, posting fewer than 64 points in all four losses. The good news is that they posted a combined 179 points in the two wins, and they’ve managed 79 or more points in six of seven wins overall this year.
As for LA-Monroe, they shot just 36.9 percent from the field and got out-rebounded 48-34 in their latest loss to Old Dominion. The Warhawks are giving up a ton of points these days: 68 or more in seven straight games (a 1-6 run). If they can get some buckets early and find a solid offensive rhythm, Georgia Southern should be in good shape here. I like the Eagles to power out a victory and help right their proverbial ship, which could lead to some more confidence (and wins) down the line.
