Howard vs Penn Prediction

I’ll stick with Howard I suppose, but you could make a case the other way as well. In their opener versus Yale, the Bison took a 10-point loss thanks mostly to some rough shooting (35 percent from the field) and a 51-41 rebounding deficit. The 44 percent (7-of-16) from the line sticks out like a proverbial sore thumb as well. The Bison did pretty well in game two versus Alcorn State last week though, notching a nice 57 percent from the field with 33 percent (6-of-18) from outside, 10 turnovers and a 34-26 rebounding edge. Howard did get pretty permissive on defense though, surrendering 46 percent shooting from the field. They’ve got to get that buttoned up a bit here.

As for Penn, they had a tough draw in their opener, losing by 42 points in an NCAA Tournament rematch versus Illinois. The Quakers shot just 29 percent in that one with a 62-33 rebounding deficit while allowing 59 percent shooting on the other side. Penn did take pretty good care of the ball though (nine turnovers). The Quakers will match up much better here and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them control things the whole way.

Penn Quakers Betting Preview

Over on the Penn side, they had a pretty successful run last year. The Quakers bagged an 18-12 overall record with a 9-5 stretch in Ivy League play, putting them behind only Yale and Harvard in the standings. Penn beat Harvard and Yale in the conference tourney on the way to a championship (both OT finishes) then lost to Illinois in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

In the rematch against Illinois in their opener last week, the Quakers limped to a 112-70 loss at State Farm Center in front of over 15,000 fans. Penn’s leading scorer was Michael Zanoni with 16 points and two boards. Lucas Lueth came off the bench to contribute 14 points with four boards and two assists in 31 minutes of action during the defeat as well, and Ethan Lin chipped in seven bench points in 14 minutes.
