Florida Gulf Coast vs Georgia Prediction

I’m going to try Florida Gulf Coast in this one. The Eagles took a tough one-point overtime loss to Central Florida in their opener last week despite shooting pretty well on 45 percent from the field and 93 percent (25-of-27) from the line alongside a 37-27 rebounding edge. What got FGCU into trouble were the 13 turnovers and the 53 percent shooting allowed on defense—not to mention UCF’s 50 percent (9-of-18) from outside. Game two went better for the Eagles as they rolled to a 22-point win over New College at Alico Arena. FGCU shot 52 percent from the field this time with a 44-37 rebounding edge but did get a little butterfingers here and there with 16 turnovers. They’ll have to watch the ball control in this matchup.

As for Georgia, they got past NC Central in their opener last week, shooting 44 percent from the field with 37 rebounds. The Bulldogs gave up just 38 percent shooting on defense, but did stay pretty cold from outside (23 percent on 6-of-26) and the line (67 percent on 20-of-30). In game two Georgia got a 14-point win over Presbyterian on 48 percent shooting and a much better 38 percent (10-of-26) from 3-point range. The Bulldogs were great on ball control with just three turnovers but did give up 50 percent shooting on defense. Florida Gulf Coast may be able to find some open shots if they can keep the turnovers under control in this matchup.

Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they also have two games in the bag. Georgia started with a matchup versus NC Central last Monday at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs won that one 78-62, thanks partially to leading scorer Kanon Catchings and his 16 points. In game two versus Presbyterian, Georgia notched another victory at Stegeman Coliseum, this time 91-77. Leading the way was Blue Cain with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists.
