DePaul Blue Demons Betting Preview

The Blue Demons were looking quite good all through November, but since then the wins have been few and far between. DePaul kicked off the season with a 7-0 run, beating Southern Indiana, Prairie View, Mercer, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and Valparaiso in that time. The Blue Demons are just 2-9 in their last 11 outings, though. The only wins in that time have come versus Wichita State and Loyola Maryland. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Texas Tech, Providence, St. John’s, Northwestern, UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, and Marquette for a .500 record through their first 18 games of the season so far.

In the Marquette game back on Tuesday, the Blue Demons came out of the locker room sporting a 40-39 edge. DePaul lost the lead in the second half, however, and eventually fell in a tough result 85-83 in overtime. Leading the team in the defeat was CJ Gunn with 21 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Rivera added 20 points with seven boards off the bench, and Jacob Meyer had 12 points with four rebounds and two assists. Troy D’Amico chipped in 10 boards and two points in 37 minutes of work on the court as well.

Georgetown Hoyas Betting Preview

Over on the Georgetown side, they came out of the gate this year on a solid run and maintained form into the new calendar year. The Hoyas hit a solid 12-2 record across their first 14 outings, losing to only Notre Dame and West Virginia in that stretch. Georgetown otherwise beat Lehigh, Fairfield, Mount St. Mary’s, St. Francis PA, Wagner, Albany, UMBC, Syracuse, Creighton, Seton Hall, Coppin State, and Xavier in that time. Since then it’s been three straight losses however, as Georgetown has fallen to Marquette, UConn, and St. John’s in succession for a 12-5 overall run through the first 17 games of the year.

Matched up against St. John’s in their Tuesday outing, the Hoyas came into the second half with a 37-27 edge. That lead evaporated from there on a 36-21 deficit; however, Georgetown eventually fell 63-58. Micah Peavy led the team with 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Malik Mack added 13 points with six assists, four rebounds, and two steals, while Curtis Williams had 11 points with one rebound off the bench during the loss.

Why the Georgetown Hoyas will win

  • DePaul has lost each of its last 29 games against Conference opponents.
  • Georgetown has won each of its last seven games at Capital One Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • DePaul has lost the first half in 25 of its last 28 games against Conference opponents.

Why the DePaul Blue Demons will win

  • Georgetown has lost 40 of its last 44 night games against the Big East Conference.
  • Georgetown has lost the first half in 16 of its last 21 home night games against Conference opponents.

DePaul vs Georgetown Prediction

I’m going to stay with Georgetown I suppose. The Hoyas had a limp second half in their latest loss versus a good St. John’s team, eventually posting 41.4 percent shooting from the field and a 44-38 rebounding advantage. The major issue in that defeat was Georgetown’s 19 turnovers for 20 Red Storm points, so ball control needs to be a focus here. The Hoyas have been below 70 points in four straight games (a 1-3 run) so it would be nice to see them hit that threshold on Friday.

As for DePaul, they’re coming off a tough loss versus a very good Marquette team. The Blue Demons have been competitive lately, with two overtime losses in their last three games. Georgetown needs to get down to business early here and keep things rolling in the second half in order to stave off any late runs from the Blue Demons.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Georgetown Hoyas -9.5
