The North Carolina Tar Heels and TCU Horned Frogs meet Saturday in college football action at Aviva Stadium. Here’s a North Carolina vs TCU Prediction. This article will include a North Carolina vs TCU Pick.

North Carolina Tar Heels Betting Preview

North Carolina won 4 games last season and watched a six-year bowl streak come to an end. Bill Belichick enters his second year with the program and hopes for improvement quickly.

Offensively, Bobby Petrino was brought in as offensive coordinator and should inject explosiveness and efficiency. There are options at quarterback with Maryland-Wisconsin transfer Billy Edwards Jr., as well as Texas A&M transfer Miles O’Neill and highly touted freshman Travis Burgess. One of the three has to work out. The concerns are that UNC is replacing its offensive line, and there’s very little returning depth at the skill positions. Jordan Shipp led the Tar Heels with 671 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns while Demon June led UNC with 464 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Figure North Carolina will lean heavily on those two guys to settle in this unit.

Defensively, Steve Belichick returns for his second season as defensive coordinator, and he has a building block in Melkart Abou Jaoude, who is an All-ACC selection and can wreck game plans. North Carolina also snagged a highly rated recruit in cornerback Kenton Dopson III. Still, UNC’s defense struggled with tackling and discipline last season, and those are things that must be cleaned up if this year will be any different.

North Carolina has a chance at an improved season with the coaching staff set in place. There are proven names across the board. However, only so much can be done until the quarterback situation and offensive line come into place.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

TCU has won 9 or more games in 3 of the last 4 seasons and enters the fifth season under coach Sonny Dykes. TCU has made a bowl appearance in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Offensively, Harvard transfer Jaden Craig, who has 6,074 yards and 52 touchdowns and is the all-time Crimson passing leader, takes over at quarterback. He’ll work under new offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis, who was previously at UConn. Jeremy Payne returns after leading TCU with 623 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns, and Jordan Dwyer was second with 730 receiving yards and 7 scores. The TCU offensive line returns 3 starters. This unit has potential if Craig can adjust to the better competition without many growing pains.

Defensively, TCU lost a lot of star power, and it will take time to replace those guys. TCU says goodbye to Bud Clark and Kaleb Elarms-Orr, who shaped this group last season. The good news is Jamel Johnson is one of the best safeties in the country and will be the leader on this side of the ball. Vernon Glover returns after 41 tackles last season, and Kylin Jackson had 2.5 sacks. Cornerback Gil Jackson Jr. has also emerged in camp and is starting to generate buzz for the NFL.

North Carolina vs TCU Prediction

I’m looking at the under in this game. Both teams are breaking in new offensive coordinators and quarterbacks, and things like that take time to adjust. It’s also going to be in the 50s and rainy in Ireland for this game. Not ideal weather for opening up an offense. We should see both teams lean into the ground game. A lot of clock-moving and drives that get stuck in the mud. I see an ugly, low-scoring game to start this college football season. Give me the under.
