New Era for Colorado?
Deion Sanders is still in charge of Colorado, but outside of him, there have been a ton of changes made to the team. It starts under center with Shedeur Sanders moved onto the Cleveland Browns. There was a quarterback battle during training camp, at least that’s what it was made out to be, but it appears that former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter Jr has won the job. Last season with the Liberty Flames he completed 56.3 percent of his passes for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The running game last season was a problem, and they are going to need a more balanced attack this season. This starts with guys like Micah Welch and DeKalon Taylor. It should help that Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk is now leading that room as a coach.
On defense, the secondary looks a lot different with Travis Hunter and Shilo Sanders gone, but this defense should still be good. It starts up front with the defense, and the star of the show is Arden Walker, who dealt with injuries last year. Tavian Coleman came in from Texas State and is going to need to be a difference maker here.
Why Colorado Will Beat Georgia Tech
- Colorado has won eight of its last nine season openers.
- Georgia Tech has lost each of its last four road openers.
- Colorado has covered the spread in eight of its last nine games in Colorado.
- Georgia Tech has failed to cover the spread in four of its last five games against non-AP-ranked teams.
Can Georgia Tech be a Factor in the ACC?
Last season, Georgia Tech finished with a 7-6 record overall and during ACC play, they finished with a 5-3 record. They were very middle of the road, but there is some buzz around this team, that they can take that next step forward this year. The star of the show for Georgia Tech is Haynes King under center. Last season, King threw for 2,114 yards, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He dealt with a shoulder injury, though, that really held him back. Keylan Rutledge is one of the best offensive linemen in the country and will be key in keeping King upright.
On defense, Georgia Tech had some changes, including a change in coordinator. Last year’s defensive coordinator, Tyler Santucci, left to join the Baltimore Ravens, and in came former Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon. Last season, Georgia Tech’s pass rush didn’t gain enough traction, and that is something that needs to be much improved this season.
Why Georgia Tech Will Beat Colorado

- The favorite has covered the spread in each of Colorado’s last three games at Folsom Field.
Georgia Tech vs Colorado Prediction
I really want to side with Colorado here, but I am just not sold on their defense, and it’s going to be a major problem again here. Haynes King is healthy, and his passing is going to be a whole lot more improved over last season. Not having Hunter on the backend of the defense is going to be a major problem for the Colorado defense. I actually don’t think this Colorado offense though is going to take much of a step back, with Salter Jr under center. I was impressed with his play at Liberty, and he’s going to find success against the GT defense. I expect it to be a highly competitive game, at least on the offensive side of the ball, and both teams are going to run up the score. Back the over to cash.
