George Mason Patriots
The Patriots have scored pretty well so far this year, starting with a 72-61 win over Monmouth in their opener. George Mason shot a solid 46.9 percent from the field in that one, along with a 44-32 rebounding edge. In game two the Patriots took out Austin Peay 67-45 thanks to a 44-35 advantage on the boards.
George Mason kept their early-season run going on Wednesday versus Cornell. The Patriots took a 43-42 edge into the break, then scored 47 more points in a 90-83 win. Keyshawn Hall topped the scoring with 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Amari Kelly added 17 points with seven boards.
Charlotte 49ers
Over on the Charlotte side, they’re yet to hit 70 points in any of their three games this year, but they’ve still maintained a winning record. The 49ers are averaging a tepid 63.3 points per game so far, allowing 56.0 points on the other side. Charlotte has rebounded pretty well though, posting 33.3 boards per game and 100 total.
Back on Wednesday versus Utah Valley, the 49ers scored 31 points in each half on the way to a 62-45 win. Charlotte’s leading scorer was Dishon Jackson with 16 points and seven rebounds. Doubling up was Igor Milicic with 15 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in the victory.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to stick with George Mason. The Patriots played pretty well against a decent Cornell team in their last outing, shooting 50 percent from the field with 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from 3-point range. George Mason missed a few foul shots (19-of-25) but held the edge on the boards 37-31.
As for Charlotte, they were able to hold Utah Valley in check during their last outing with just 34 percent shooting and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from outside. The 49ers didn’t exactly light it up from 3-point range themselves however, hitting just five of 21 attempts. Charlotte is probably going to need to hit the gas on offense in order to maintain a cover pace here, and I don’t think they’ve got the shooting prowess to do it.
Andrew’s Pick George Mason Patriots -1.5
