Coco Gauff is the third seed at the WTA Finals. This is her fourth main draw appearance at the tournament. Gauff is the defending champion. She defeated both Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka en route to the title last year. Gauff has also been eliminated in the group stage (2022) in her debut appearance.Gauff returns to Riyadh to defend her title on the back of another decent year, where she won her second Grand Slam in singles at the French Open. She also extended her perfect record in hard-court finals by winning the Wuhan Open. She has won nine of her last 10 matches, with her only defeat coming to Anisimova in Beijing.
Jessica Pegula has reclaimed her spot in the top five thanks to another consistent year from the veteran American. Pegula left it late to qualify for the WTA Finals. This will be her fourth appearance at the year-end championships. She has been eliminated in the group stage twice, including last year when she had to pull out from the event after two matches because of injury. Pegula was the runner-up in the 2023 final where she lost to Iga Swiatek.
Pegula has compiled a 51-21 record and lifted three titles on all three surfaces. In her last three tournaments, she has played in two semifinals and one final. Her most recent match was the Wuhan Open final, where she ended Sabalenka’s perfect record before losing to Coco Gauff.
