The New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet Saturday in NHL action from the Benchmark International Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New Jersey Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightning prediction.

New Jersey Devils Recap

The New Jersey Devils come into this game looking to bounce back from a 6-3 loss to start the year against the Carolina Hurricanes last time out to start 0-1. After this game, the New Jersey Devils will head on the road for a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Devils Looking For Tighter Defense In Game Two

Carolina opened the scoring with a goal just over four minutes into the game, with the lone goal of the opening period. Dougie Hamilton would get New Jersey on the board just 8:15 into the second period, but the tie would last just 1:08 before Carolina re-took the lead. Cody Glass would once again tie things up for New Jersey with just over six minutes to go in the second period. Carolina restored the lead just past the midway point of the third and the Devils once again tied the game at three with a goal from Jesper Bratt just 1:17 later. The Hurricanes would take the lead for good with a goal with 2:43 to go and added two more goals including an empty-netter, across the last minute of the game to add salt into New Jersey’s wound. Jacob Markstrom took the loss after allowing 5 goals on 32 shots faced in the losing effort to drop to 0-1 this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning Recap

The Tampa Bay Lightning come into this game looking to rebound from their 5-4 season-opening loss at the hands of the Ottawa Senators last time out to sit at 0-1 this season. After this game, the Lightning will head on the road for a game against the Boston Bruins.

Lightning Looking For Better Showing In Game Two

Tampa Bay started the game strong with goals from Oliver Bjorkstrand and Brayden Point 1:25 apart in the first seven minutes of the game before Ottawa would get on the board just after the midway point of the opening period. Nikita Kucherov would restore Tampa Bay’s two-goal lead with just over five minutes to go in the first. Ottawa would tie the game at three by the second intermission and that 3-3 tie would hold until the waning moments of the third before Ottawa took a 4-3 lead with 1:47 to go and added an empty-netter for insurance with 48 seconds to go. Nikita Kucherov pulled one back with 14 seconds to go but it ended up being just a consolation goal as that’s as close as the Bolts would get. Andrei Vasilevskiy ended up with the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing 4 goals on 33 shots faced in the defeat.

New Jersey Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction

I’m on the Lightning here. I was just more impressed with the Lightning in two teams that both took an L in their respective openers, and I think the Lightning still have a significant edge in goal. Tampa is one of the tougher home environments in the NHL and I think Tampa Bay gets in the win column with a W here. Give me Tampa Bay in this one.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Tampa Bay -145
