Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

Minnesota came right out of the gate with an important divisional matchup versus the Green Bay Packers in their opener. The Vikes were down 19-10 by halftime and in danger of losing by the fourth but put up 22 unanswered points to finish off a 39-22 comeback win. QB Carson Wentz was 12-of-19 for 133 yards and three scores. Justin Jefferson caught eight balls for 92 yards and two TDs.

In game two versus the Chicago Bears, the Vikings could only muster a couple of field goals in the first half and went into the locker room with a slim 6-3 advantage. Minnesota was kept out of the end zone in the second but still managed to prevail 9-3 in the end. Wentz posted an 11-of-20 line for 143 yards while Aaron Jones led the rush on 23 carries for 105 yards.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Preview

Over on the Tampa Bay side, they opened up their campaign with a road game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. The Buccaneers were down 24-10 by the break, giving up points (but also scoring points) in every quarter of a 33-27 loss. QB Baker Mayfield was 23-of-28 for 216 yards and also had a rush score. Bucky Irving carried eight times for 45 yards and a TD.

Matched up against the Cleveland Browns last weekend, the Bucs were up 9-6 after a defense-heavy first half. Tampa Bay managed to score 10 points in the second half but it wasn’t enough in a 23-19 loss. Mayfield was 21-of-34 for 182 yards, one TD and one pick. Irving was once again the top rusher with 17 carries for 89 yards.

Vikings vs Buccaneers Prediction

Give me Minnesota. The Vikings are coming off a big win over the rival Bears on the road last weekend, and it was a great defensive outing. That unit came up with two takeaways while giving up 297 yards (163 passing), 17 first downs and 5-of-15 on third-down tries. The offense was pretty stagnant most of the day though, accounting for just 11 first downs and a 3-of-13 success rate on third downs. Still, a divisional road win is a divisional road win.
As for the Bucs, they didn’t play too badly on defense in their loss to the Browns, with just 15 first downs and 5-of-13 on third downs allowed. There were no takeaways though, and the offense wasn’t exactly explosive either on a tepid 176 pass yards and 17 first downs. This one’s not going to get a whole lot easier, but at least it’s at home again.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Minnesota Vikings -1.5
