The 76ers went from a cute playoff team to a legit title contender with the additions of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. Add them to Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid, and Philly has possibly the most talented starting five in the NBA. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Anfernee Simons coming off the bench as well is nothing to sneeze at. The 76ers have emerged quickly as a popular title bet in the futures market. The biggest question is fit, as there’s only one ball for guys used to high usage. Also, Embiid has issues staying healthy, and LeBron is 42 years old in December. Still, the talent is there for the 76ers to win their first title since the 80s.

The Knicks bring back their entire core, outside of losing Mitchell Robinson to the Celtics. They replaced him with Andre Drummond. The Knicks are built on chemistry and friendship, and after just winning a title, it’s hard to bet against. The Knicks are the East favorites until proven otherwise, and there’s no reason to get cute with any splashy moves. However, like all teams that just won a chip, motivation could be an issue in the regular season after a long championship run. There’s also now a target on their back, and the East has gotten tougher. Regardless, basketball is alive and well in NYC.
