Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Rays played the Chicago Cubs in their early-week series. Tampa Bay won 5-2 on Tuesday but took a 4-3 loss in game two. The Rays were able to win the series with a 3-2 victory in the rubber match. On Friday versus the Braves, the Rays were out-hit 12-8 in a 7-3 loss. Starting pitcher Zack Littell gave up six earned on eight hits and a walk.

In the starter slot for the Saturday game two, the Rays will send out Ryan Pepiot. This year Pepiot is 4-3 with a 4.17 ERA in 11 starts. He’s got 68 Ks in 58.1 innings. Pepiot is 9-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 28 games (21 starts).

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

Over on the Braves’ side, they took on the Baltimore Orioles this week. Atlanta lost the first two installments of that set 4-0 and 4-2 but staved off the sweep with a 6-3 win in the finale. On Friday the Braves got 7.0 innings with two earned on five hits and two walks from starter Chris Sale.

Charlie Morton will start for the Braves on Saturday. So far this season Morton is 3-3 with a 4.12 ERA in 12 starts. He has 68 Ks in 67.2 innings. Morton is 133-116 with a 4.00 ERA in 365 career games (364 starts).

Tampa Bay Rays vs Atlanta Braves Prediction

I’ll probably try the Rays here. Pepiot could use a good start, though. In his last outing Pepiot gave up four earned on nine hits in 6.0 innings in a loss to Baltimore. Prior to that Pepiot had given up five earned in 11.2 innings over two starts. As for Morton, he’s struggled a bit lately, giving up a combined 12 earned runs in 10.2 innings during two of his last three appearances.

On Friday the Rays were down 7-0 after two innings and really didn’t have much chance at catching up. I like Tampa to recover for game two, though.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Tampa Bay Rays +133
