In the Thursday series opener versus the Cardinals at Rickwood Field, the Giants took a tough 6-5 loss. Starter Keaton Winn gave up five earned in 2.2 innings on five hits and a walk.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they played the Miami Marlins in their last series. St. Louis similarly won their opener 7-6 but then lost the next two outings 9-8 and 4-3. The Cardinals got off to a quick start at the plate in Thursday’s game, but Andre Pallante struggled with 5.1 innings and five earned as starter.

San Francisco Giants vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

I’ll just stay with the Cardinals here. Mikolas should do a pretty good job while he’s out there. In his last three starts combined Mikolas is 2-0 with three earned runs in 19.1 innings on 10 hits and one walk. As for Hicks, he struggled a bit early this month but is coming off a nice outing versus the Cubs (5.0 clean frames).

St. Louis had a great first few innings offensively in the Thursday opener but ultimately cooled off and got out-hit 11-7. Only a few players came away with nice stats at the plate. The bats need to get going more consistently Saturday, but Mikolas should be able to set the table well.

Andrew Jett's Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -111
