In this article, we will formulate a San Francisco Giants vs Houston Astros prediction for this MLB game on Monday, March 31st, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this MLB matchup.

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

The San Francisco Giants are 2-1 this year after they won two out of three games against the Reds over the weekend. San Francisco won games one and three by scores of 6-4 and 6-3, but did drop game two by a score of 3-2. In game three on Sunday, the Giants were held scoreless in the first four innings, but they scored six runs between the fifth and eighth inning for the win. Chapman and Ramos had two RBIs each, while Robbie Ray allowed three earned runs and three hits over 5.1 innings of work.

The San Francisco pitching staff has a 3.46 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and a .221 opponent batting average, while their offense has scored 14 runs with a .214 batting average and a .250 on-base percentage this year. Flores and Ramos both have two home runs this season, and they also lead the team with four RBIs each. The projected starting pitcher for San Francisco is Jordan Hicks, who went 4-7 with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP over 109.2 innings pitched in 2024.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Houston Astros are 2-1 this season after they won two out of three against the Mets in their first series. Houston won games one and three by scores of 3-1 and 2-1, but did lose game two by a score of 3-1. In game three, Houston homered in the fifth inning and got the winning run on an Alvarez double in the sixth, while holding New York to just one hit in the game. Alvarez and Pena both had one RBI in the game, while Arrighetti allowed one earned run and one hit over 6.0 innings, while also striking out five.

The Houston pitching staff has a 1.33 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP and a .136 opponent batting average, while the offense has scored six runs with a .176 batting average and a .290 on-base percentage. Jeremy Pena is the only Astro with a home run so far this year, while Yordan Alvarez has two RBIs through three games. The projected starting pitcher for Houston is Ronel Blanco, who was 13-6 with a 2.80 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over 167.1 innings pitched last season.

San Francisco Giants vs Houston Astros Prediction

Both of these teams come into this matchup with 2-1 records after the first series of the season, but Houston will be looking for more offense. The Astros scored just six runs through three games, but on the bright side, their pitching staff was great. The Giants exploded for 12 total runs in their two victories, and they hit three home runs. The Astros will start Blanco, who had a very good 2024 season, and I think this is a very good matchup for him. San Francisco is starting Jordan Hicks, who had an elevated WHIP last season, but might be able to take advantage of the slow Houston start. Blanco is the better option, in my opinion, and even with the bad offense, I will take Houston here.
