San Diego Padres Betting Preview

Early this week the Padres took on the Oakland Athletics. San Diego did well in that series, winning 6-1, 4-3 and 5-4 for a sweep. The Padres took a tough 2-1 loss to the Mets on Friday in the opener, then in game two San Diego had just two hits in a 5-1 loss. Starting pitcher Adam Mazur lasted 3.2 innings with two earned on three hits and six walks.

For the starter role in the finale the Padres will turn to Dylan Cease. This year Cease is 6-5 with a 3.36 ERA and 101 Ks in 83.0 innings over 14 starts. Cease is 49-40 with a 3.78 career ERA in 137 starts total.

Over on the Mets’ side, they played the Miami Marlins in their last series. New York lost 4-2 in the opener of that set but came back for wins 10-4 and 3-2 to take it. Following their close win Friday, in game two the Mets scored three runs in the fourth inning along the way to 10 team hits. Jose Quintana managed 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on two hits and two walks.

It’ll be Tylor Megill in the starter role for the Mets on Sunday. This year Megill is 1-3 with a 3.51 ERA in five starts. He has 32 Ks in 25.2 innings. Megill is 18-19 with a 4.61 ERA in 63 career games (57 starts).

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Prediction

I’ll just stay with the Padres. Cease had a couple of spotty starts going early this month with six earned in 11.1 innings total for an 0-1 record. In his last start however, Cease posted a victory with 6.0 innings, one earned run, eight hits and a walk. As for Megill, he’s given up seven earned over his last 9.2 innings.

On Saturday the Padres couldn’t do much of anything on offense and got burned by a great evening from New York’s JD Martinez (three hits; two homers; two walks; three RBI). San Diego needs to get the bats going in the finale.

Andrew Jett's Pick: San Diego Padres -109
