In this article we will formulate a Chicago Cubs vs Colorado Rockies prediction for this MLB game on Friday, September 13th at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. To formulate this prediction for game one in the series, we will examine:

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Chicago Cubs are 75-71 this year and they have won three of their last four games. Chicago is coming off of a series win against the Dodgers, where they won two out of three games. Prior to that series, the Cubs lost two out of three against the Yankees, lost two out of three against the Pirates, and swept the Nationals. Chicago is 4-5 in their last nine games and they are second in the NL Central.

The Chicago pitching staff has a 3.78 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a .238 opponent batting average. The Cubs’ offense has scored 667 runs with a .240 batting average and a .315 on-base percentage. Seiya Suzuki is batting .274 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI’s for the Cubs this season.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Colorado Rockies are 55-92 this season and they have lost three of their last five games. Colorado is coming off of a series loss against Detroit, where they lost two out of three games. Prior to that series, the Rockies won two out of three against the Brewers, lost two out of three against the Braves, and lost two out of three against the Orioles. Colorado is 5-8 in their last 13 games and they are last in the NL West.

The Colorado pitching staff has a 5.43 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and a .284 opponent batting average. The Rockies offense has scored 613 runs with a .242 batting average and a .303 on-base percentage. Ryan McMahon is batting .247 with 19 home runs and 61 RBI’s for the Rockies this season.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Chicago is Javier Assad, who is 7-5 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP over 131.2 innings pitched this year. Assad has allowed three earned runs in two of his last three starts. The projected starting pitcher for Colorado is Austin Gomber, who is 5-10 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over 152.0 innings pitched this season. Gomber has allowed at least three earned runs in two of his last three starts.

Chicago Cubs vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

Colorado was able to avoid being swept by the Tigers with their win on Thursday afternoon and they will return home, where they play their best baseball. The Rockies are 32-37 at home, while the Cubs are 37-38 on the road. Chicago is second in the NL Central, but they are too far away from the Brewers to make a realistic push for the division. The Cubs are starting Javier Assad, who has had an up-and-down season, but has been pretty solid in his last five outings. The Rockies are going with Gomber, who has been one of their better pitchers, and I like the Rockies at home here. Colorado has been very tough to play in Colorado and with the pitching matchup being close to a wash in my opinion, I am going to side with Colorado and the plus money.
