Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

The Boston Red Sox enter Friday’s contest with a 43–48 overall record (4th in the American League East) and a robust 26-21 mark on the road. The Red Sox offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Boston has compiled 372 runs scored (29th in MLB), 160 doubles, a .244 team batting average and 81 home runs which ranks an abysmal 30th in Major League Baseball.

The Red Sox arrive at tomorrow night’s game in outstanding form. Boston has won nine of the team’s last eleven games played this season, including an 8–1 victory over the Chicago White Sox two days ago.

Boston will turn to right hander Sonny Gray in this contest. In sixteen starts made this season, Gray has compiled a 10–1 win‑loss record (3rd in MLB), a 2.61 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 82 strikeouts, while allowing 76 hits and 23 walks in 89.2 innings pitched. Sonny Gray has pitched exceptionally well recently, allowing one or fewer earned runs in three consecutive starts made this season.

The Boston Red Sox lineup features outfielder Wilyer Abreu and first baseman Willson Contreras. Abreu enters this contest with a .264 batting average, 10 home runs, 18 doubles, 41 RBIs and a .759 OPS. Wilson Contreras has compiled a .285 batting average, 20 home runs (14th in MLB), 16 doubles and 61 RBIs.

New York Mets Betting Preview

The New York Mets enter Friday night’s matchup with a 40–54 overall record (5th in the National League East) and a 21–25 mark at home. New York arrives at this contest in good form. The Mets have won four of the team’s last five games, including a thrilling 7–6 victory over the Atlanta Braves earlier this week.

New York will start right hander Nolan McLean in tomorrow’s game. In eighteen starts made this season, McLean has compiled a 6–5 record, a 3.73 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a whopping 118 strikeouts which ranks 11th in Major League Baseball, while allowing 76 hits and 36 walks in 101.1 innings pitched.

The New York Mets lineup features Juan Soto and Carson Benge. Juan Soto enters this contest with a .297 batting average, 21 home runs (14th in MLB), 50 RBIs and a .993 OPS which ranks eighth in Major League Baseball. Carson Benge has compiled a .256 batting average, 10 home runs, 14 doubles, 24 walks, 51 RBIs, and a .677 OPS.

• Offensive consistency. Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras continue to lead the Boston Red Sox lineup.

Why the New York Mets will win.

• Home field edge. New York has played competitive baseball at Citi Field this season.

• Quality starting pitching. Nolan McLean has amassed a 6–5 record, a 3.73 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a whopping 118 strikeouts which ranks 11th in Major League Baseball.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Boston Red Sox staying within the number (1.5). Why? Boston starting pitcher Sonny Gray has pitched exceptionally well recently, allowing one or fewer earned runs in three consecutive starts made this season. It is also noteworthy that the Red Sox have played at a high level on the road in 2026, posting a 26-21 record away from home. With that said, I like Boston to stay within the number in this one with the upside of the Red Sox potentially winning the game outright. In summary, I am backing the Boston Red Sox plus the 1.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Boston Red Sox +1.5
