This year the Mountaineers kicked off the season with a nice win streak. Appalachian State blew past Maine in the opener, then had a pair of tough victories over East Carolina and Charlotte. Last weekend versus Old Dominion, the Mountaineers fought through a scoreless first half then entered the final frame with an advantage—and an odd score—of 3-2. App State gave up a TD from there though, and lost 10-3 in the end. QB Malachi Singleton was just 5-of-23 for 72 yards and a pick while Jaquari Lewis had 10 carries for 41 yards in the losing effort.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview

Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they haven’t had a whole lot of luck in the win column this year. The Chanticleers kicked off the season with a loss 31-24 at West Virginia, but then got a win over Fordham 45-7 in game two. Coastal Carolina hit the skids after that, falling to Delaware, Liberty and Georgia Southern in succession for a 1-4 start to the year.

Matched up against Marshall last weekend the Chanticleers were rolling by the third quarter and worked their way up to a 27-0 advantage. Coastal Carolina cruised from there and eventually powered out a closer-than-expected 27-21 road win. QB Deuce Bailey was 8-of-18 for 73 yards, one TD and one pick while Dominic Lee-Knicely had 25 carries for 169 yards and a score.

I’ll stick with Coastal but you could argue this one either way. The Chanticleers managed just 16 first downs and 3-of-12 on third-down tries in their win over Marshall last weekend but the defense did most of the work. That unit gave up 505 yards total (221 rushing) but also came up with a whopping six takeaways (three fumbles). Coastal Carolina has given up 21 or more points in four straight games now.

As for App State, their defense bagged three takeaways and allowed only 97 pass yards in their loss to ODU last weekend. Trouble is, the offense had three turnovers and went just 1-of-13 on third downs in that defeat. The Mountaineers had 26 or more points in four straight games prior to that.
