In this article, we will formulate a Virginia vs Miami prediction for this College Basketball game on Wednesday, January 29th at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this College Basketball matchup.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

The Virginia Cavaliers are 9-11 (2-7) this season after they lost to Notre Dame by a score of 74-59 in their last game. Virginia trailed 39-27 at halftime and only scored 32 points in the second half in the loss. The Cavaliers shot 48.2% from the field, 52.2% on three-pointers, and 72.7% on free throws in the game. Jacob Cofie led Virginia with 17 points and six rebounds, while Isaac McKneely added 14 points and three assists in the game.

Prior to that loss, the Cavaliers defeated Boston College by a score of 74-56 but did lose to Louisville by a score of 81-67 in their last game. Virginia has lost six of their last seven games and they are currently near the bottom of the ACC standings. Virginia has scored 61.9 points per game and they have allowed 64.5 points per game, while also averaging 30.5 rebounds and 14.4 assists per game this season. Isaac McKneely is averaging 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, while Elijah Saunders is averaging 11.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game this year. Virginia is shooting 43.2% from the field, 74.1% on free throws, and 37% on three-pointers this season.

Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview

The Miami Hurricanes are 4-16 (0-9) this year after they lost to California by a score of 98-94 in overtime. Miami trailed 47-39 at halftime, but they scored 40 points in the second half to force overtime, before losing in overtime. The Hurricanes shot 45.6% from the field, 51.9% on three-pointers, and 85.7% on free throws in the game. Matthew Cleveland led Miami with 30 points and eight rebounds, while Brandon Johnson added 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Prior to that game, the Hurricanes lost to Stanford by a score of 88-51 and SMU by a score of 117-74. Miami has lost nine games in a row and they are the only winless team in the ACC. Miami has scored 75.7 points per game and they have allowed 80.6 points per game, while also averaging 32.4 rebounds and 13.0 assists per game this season. Matthew Cleveland is averaging 15.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, while Lynn Kidd is averaging 11.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game this year. Miami is shooting 46.1% from the field, 77.4% on free throws, and 32.1% on three-pointers this season.

Why Miami will beat Virginia

  • Virginia has lost each of its last five road games against Conference opponents.
  • Miami (FL) has won five of its last six home games following an overtime loss.
  • The home team has won the first half in six of the last seven games between Virginia and Miami (FL).

Virginia vs Miami Prediction

Miami comes into this matchup trying to avoid their 10th straight loss in conference play, but they did show a little improvement in their last game. The Hurricanes showed very little life over the last few weeks, but they nearly beat Cal on the road in their last game. Miami is shooting 46.1% from the field and their offense hasn’t been awful, but their defense is allowing over 80 points per game this year. Virginia only has two wins in ACC play so far this season and both of those victories came at home. The Cavaliers are shooting 43.2% from the field and they are scoring just 61.9 points per game this year. I don’t like how either team is playing right now, but I do think Miami’s offense can lead them to a victory. Take the Hurricanes here.
