Utah Tech Trailblazers Betting Preview
The Trailblazers really only have one good stretch of play so far this year. Outside of that, it’s been a struggle in the record column. Utah Tech went 2-10 in their first 12 outings, losing to Oregon State, New Mexico State, Wyoming, Utah, CSU Northridge, Montana, Portland State, Boise State, Utah State, and Weber State in that time. A 4-1 run came next with wins over Whittier, South Dakota, Texas Arlington, and Tarleton State (and a loss to FIU). Utah Tech would lose their next three to Seattle U, Utah Valley, and Grand Canyon however, giving the Trailblazers a rough 6-14 record through the first 20 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
In their Thursday game versus Tarleton State, Utah Tech posted a 24-21 deficit in the first half. The Trailblazers didn’t get any closer than that, falling behind further on a 37-33 run during a loss of 61-54 in the end. Tops in scoring was Hakim Byrd with 18 pitons, five assists, two steals, and two rebounds. The only other player on the team to finish in double-figures was Noa Gonzalves with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals in 31 minutes on the floor.
Texas-Arlington Mavericks Betting Preview
Over on the Texas-Arlington side, they’ve had a good run or two themselves so far but haven’t been able to get back above .500 lately. The Mavericks went 6-6 in their first 12 games, beating UNT Dallas, Texas College, Austin Peay, LA Monroe, and Evansville, then hit a rough 1-5 skid over the next half dozen outings. Those losses were to Liberty, Tarleton State, Utah Tech, Southern Utah, and Utah Valley, with a lone win over Texas State mixed in. Texas-Arlington was able to recover over the next pair, however, beating Seattle U and Abilene Christian for a 9-11 record through their first 20 games this year.
Matched up against Southern Utah on Thursday, the Mavs jumped out to a 36-25 edge by the break. Texas Arlington fell back in the second half though, hitting a 43-34 deficit during a tight win 70-68 in the end. Lance Ware led the team with 26 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Brody Robinson added 20 points with nine assists and five rebounds.
Why the UT Arlington Mavericks will win
- Utah Tech has lost each of its last eight road day games against Conference opponents.
- UT Arlington Mavericks has won each of its last five day games against Conference opponents.
- UT Arlington Mavericks has won the first half in five of its last six games at College Park Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Utah Tech vs Texas Arlington Prediction
I’ll stick with Texas-Arlington. The Mavericks cut it really close against a middling Southern Utah team in their last outing though, shooting just 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from the line with a 37-35 rebounding deficit. Their saving grace, however, was 14 points off 13 Thunderbirds turnovers. That makes 149 combined points in the last two games for TX-Arlington.
These teams last saw each other back on January 9 in a 74-62 home win for Utah Tech. The Mavericks didn’t shoot very well (37.9 percent) or rebound very well (a 38-34 deficit) in that one, and they also committed 14 turnovers. Utah Tech had 13 turnovers themselves, however, so it was a pretty sloppy game overall. I like Texas-Arlington to get some revenge in the home rematch here, but it should be a close one most of the way.
