Rider Broncs vs Pitt Panthers Prediction

I’m on Pitt here. I’m not high on the Panthers overall, but Rider might be one of the five worst teams in the country, and this team got drilled in their step up spots far more often than not last season and this team brings back very little continuity. Maybe that’s not a bad thing, but you’re still trying to establish chemistry on the fly against a team that has a coach on the hot seat in Jeff Capel and Pitt will likely be looking to establish that early. I’ll side with the Panthers in the blowout spot here.

Rider Broncs Recap

The Rider Broncs enter the 2026-27 season looking to hit the reset button under head coach Kevin Baggett after struggling through a difficult 2025-26 campaign where Rider finished 4-25 overall and 3-17 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Broncs found wins hard to come by throughout the year, though they did manage a few bright spots with home victories over Iona and Niagara alongside a hard-fought 81-78 win against Saint Peter’s, though consistency and defensive stops remained major hurdles. Rider missed out on making noise in the postseason mix, ending the schedule on a tough slide down the stretch. Facing a complete roster turnover with virtually zero returning production from last season, the Broncs have essentially turned to a total rebuild via the transfer portal and new faces. Leading the revamped new-look roster are incoming transfers such as Mark Butler from Lafayette, who posted 10.7 points and 4.2 assists per game, alongside supporting arrivals like Khalil Farmer and Horace Simmons Jr.. While navigating a completely brand-new rotation brings significant uncertainty, the influx of fresh talent gives Rider an opportunity to turn the page and surprise opponents in the MAAC this season.

Pitt Panthers Recap

The Pitt Panthers enter the 2026-27 season looking to bounce back under head coach Jeff Capel after concluding a tough 2025-26 campaign with a 13-20 overall record and a 5-13 mark in ACC conference play. Pitt experienced plenty of ups and downs throughout the year, securing conference wins over Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, California, and a tight 71-69 overtime thriller against Syracuse, though consistency remained an uphill battle. Entering the ACC tournament as the 15-seed, the Panthers managed an opening-round 64-63 victory over 10-seed Stanford before having their postseason run halted in the second round by 7-seed NC State, 88-98. Heading into this season, Pitt undergoes a massive roster transformation with virtually zero returning production, but head coach Jeff Capel has aggressively retooled through the transfer portal. The new-look roster features exciting incoming impact transfers such as A’lahn Sumler from Charleston Southern, who posted 18.9 points and 3.8 assists per game, Armani Mighty from Mercer, who averaged 13.2 points and 10.6 rebounds, and Timofei Rudovskii from Bryant. While blending a completely overhauled transfer-heavy rotation in the competitive ACC brings significant questions, the influx of proven scoring and rebounding talent gives Pitt a dangerous foundation to climb back up the conference standings this season.
