Gardner Webb Bulldogs vs. UConn Huskies Prediction
I’m on UConn in this one. I get the case to be made for an underdog in some spots, but this is a UConn team that has historically put a beating on these inferior teams in these buy games and I don’t expect that to change here whatsoever. The Huskies have a fair amount of turnover from last year, but this is still a quality team that’s well coached, but I’m not sure the same can be said about GW. I think Gardner Webb’s in deep here. Give me UConn.
Gardner Webb Bulldogs Recap
The Gardner Webb Bulldogs come into the 2026-27 season looking to leave 2025-26 in the rear view after a brutal 4-29 mark in 2025-26, including a 1-15 mark in Big South conference play. The Bulldogs would be the 9-seed in the Big South tournament, upsetting USC Upstate in the first round before being kicked out by High Point in the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs lose a lot of talent from last year, but hit the D-II Ranks to fill the void, bringing in DJ Daniel from D-II Luther, who had 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season. Jacob Hudson had 10.7 points and 4 rebounds for the Bulldogs as their top returning starter, while Seth Brown adds added depth after chipping in 13.6 points and 3.4 rebounds at the D-II level. There’s a lot of climbing out of last year’s hole to do for GW, but it’s not hard to improve on last season’s disappointment.
UConn Huskies Recap
The UConn Huskies come into the 2026-27 season looking to return to college basketball’s summit after falling just short, finishing the year at 34-6 overall. The Huskies went 17-3 in Big East play, finishing with the 2-seed in the Big East tournament. The Huskies would take down Xavier and Georgetown on the way to the Big East title game where the Huskies would lose to St. John’s. UConn would get a 2-seed at the NCAA Tournament and knock down Furman, UCLA, Michigan State, Duke and Illinois before falling to Michigan in the national championship game, failing to complete the three-peat. Braylon Mullins is back after his shining moment in the NCAA Tournament, logging 12.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Huskies last season. Silas Demary Jr. is also back after putting up 10.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists for UConn last season and Nils Machowski was the star pickup from the transfer portal after logging 17.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for Wofford last season. It’s a new look Huskies team, but the more things change with UConn, it feels like the more they stay the same as UConn’s likely going to be in the mix for a national title once again.
