South Carolina Gamecocks Betting Preview

The Gamecocks went 3-1 over their first four games this year with wins over Old Dominion, Kentucky, and Akron alongside a loss to LSU. After losses to Ole Miss and Alabama, South Carolina bounced back with a 35-9 win over Oklahoma.

Last weekend in the Texas A&M matchup, the Gamecocks scored double-digit points in three of four quarters in a dominant win 44-20. LaNorris Sellers threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns with a score on the ground as well. Raheim Sanders rushed for 144 yards and two scores of his own.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview

Over on the Vanderbilt side, their year began with a pair of wins over Virginia Tech and Alcorn State before losses to Georgia State and Missouri. The Commodores stunned Alabama then beat Kentucky and Ball State before another loss to Texas.

In the Auburn game, the Commodores outscored the Tigers 10-0 in the second half for a 17-7 win. QB Diego Pavia threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while Junior Sherrill’s 31-yard catch paced the receivers. Sedrick Alexander rushed 10 times for 28 yards as well.

South Carolina vs Vanderbilt Prediction

I’m going with South Carolina—so long as the Gamecocks don’t suffer that proverbial “big-win hangover,” that is. South Carolina did great against a tough Texas A&M team last weekend, notching 530 yards (286 rushing) and 26 first downs. The third-down conversions (4-of-13) weren’t so great, but that was about the only blemish.

As for Vanderbilt, they did a good job on defense against Auburn, giving up just 14 first downs and 2-of-13 on third-down tries. The Commodores mustered just 227 yards (143 passing) and 12 first downs on offense themselves, however. Vanderbilt is going to have to get it going on the scoreboard in order to keep up here, and I don’t think they’ve got the firepower.

Andrew Jett's Pick: South Carolina Gamecocks -3.5
