The Chicago Sky and the Portland Fire meet Saturday in WNBA action from the Moda Center. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Chicago Sky vs. Portland Fire prediction.
Chicago Sky Team Preview
The Chicago Sky enter the 2026 season desperate for a fresh start after a chaotic 2025 campaign that saw coach Teresa Weatherspoon fired, star point guard Courtney Vandersloot lost to a knee injury, and the team finishing tied for last place at 10-34. The offseason brought even more drama when leading scorer and rebounder Angel Reese voiced her frustration with the team’s direction and was subsequently traded to Atlanta in April. Looking to rebuild their broken identity under new head coach Tyler Marsh, Chicago completely revamped their roster by adding veteran guards Skylar Diggins, DiJonai Carrington, and Natasha Cloud, alongside young talent like Jacy Sheldon and Rickea Jackson. They will pair these new additions with sophomore center Kamilla Cardoso and veteran Elizabeth Williams in the post to address a team that tied for the worst offense and had the absolute worst defense in the league last year. Only time will tell if coach Marsh can successfully mesh this incredibly new group to win out of the gate and push for a postseason spot in 2026.
Portland Fire Team Preview
The Portland Fire enter the 2026 season looking to make a splash in their return to the league under brand-new ownership after a twenty-four year absence. Portland selected Bridget Carleton with the first pick of the expansion draft, followed by signing veteran guard Karlie Samuelson in free agency. The biggest concern for the Fire is the lack of a proven, elite number one scoring option, meaning they will heavily rely on Carleton and Haley Jones to take massive steps forward in their offensive roles. While matching the historic playoff run of last year’s expansion team in Golden State is highly unlikely, there’s still excitement and optimism about the WNBA adding to the scene in the PNW and building something to compete in the next couple of years.

Chicago Sky vs. Portland Fire Prediction
I’m on the Sky here. I don’t love the fact that I have to back Chicago on the road here but with two new-look teams in this one, I feel more confident backing the more proven combination of talent with the Sky as they have talent like Skylar Diggins, Carrington and Natasha Cloud as well as Jacy Sheldon, Rickea Jackson and Kamilla Cardoso. The Fire just feel disjointed from a talent perspective, and I don’t know if there’s going to be much to be excited about from the Fire in year one. Give me Chicago.
