The Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever kick off their WNBA season on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Sun Betting Preview
The Sun have lost in the last two WNBA Finals and there were some big changes made this offseason. Gone from last year's squad is head coach Curt Miller and two key players Jasmine Thomas and Jonquel Jones. Stephaine White has been hired and the offense should look a lot different with her in charge. Alyssa Thomas is back and she has talked about heading into the season about how excited she is for the energy around this team. Thomas is the best player on this team and they are going to need her to have a big season if they want to contender for that WNBA title. In the last preseason game the Sun faced off against the Atlanta Dream and they were able to secure the 85-68 victory.
Fever Betting Preview
On the other side of this matchup is the Fever who have had a couple of down seasons but they hope that they have the talent to turn around the franchise this year. This is a very young team, and it’s going to be a team that is filled with a lot of energy. The Fever brought signed in Erica Wheeler this offseason and there is a ton of expectations surrounding this offseason. Kelsey Mitchell has also done a lot to improve their team this off-season. She has elite speed but this offseason she has really worked on playing more under control. At times her speed has gotten her into trouble, and the hope is she will play more under control this offseason. In the last preseason game the Fever faced off against the Dallas Wings and they were able to secure the 90-83 victory.
Shane’s Free Pick
The Fever are going to be much improved this season, but I don’t think they are going to get the job done in this opening game. In the first preseason game the Suns’ defense was strong giving up only 68 points and their defense is going to step up in this game. The Fever are still young and that inexperience is going to hurt their defense, and that will be the difference as Indiana gets the job done. Back the Sun against the spread.
