The New York Liberty and Indiana Fever face off in their 20th game of the WNBA season inside the bubble at IMG Academy on Thursday
The New York Liberty have had all kinds of issues inside the bubble and at this point they might just be ready for this season to be over. The biggest issue all season has been with the offense and in the last game they only scored 70 points against the Los Angeles Sparks. The defense was also terrible in the last game giving up 96 points. The best offensive player in the last game was Jocelyn Willoughby who put up 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The Liberty are averaging 72.1 points per game while the defense is giving up 86.7 points per game. Kia Nurse has been the best offensive player this season averaging 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. In this game if the Liberty want any chance the offense is going to need to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Indiana Fever who have also struggled inside the bubble and coming into this game they have lost eight games in a row. The Fever’s offense has been better than the Liberty’s but their defense has really let them down. In the last game against the Las Vegas Aces, the Fever scored 86 points, but their defense gave up 92 points.
On the season the Fever are averaging 81.3 points per game while the defense is giving up 89.9 points per game. Even though the Fever have struggled, Kelsey Mitchell has been the star of the show averaging 17.8 points while shooting 44.7 percent from the field. In this game the Fever need Kelsey Mitchell to find success.
These are two teams who have struggled, but there is no doubt that the Fever are the better team in this matchup. The Liberty are going to struggle to score in this game and that will lead to the Fever covering the spread.
