The New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury face off in their 17th game of the WNBA season inside the bubble at IMG Academy on Saturday..
The New York Liberty have had a terrible season and coming into this game they have lost three games in a row. In the Liberty’s last game against the Atlanta Dream, the offense really struggled scoring only 56 points and that led to a six point loss. On the season the Liberty are averaging 72.5 points per game while the defense is giving up 86.4 points per game. The Liberty are only shooting 37.1 percent from the floor this year, and if they want a chance to have success going forward, Layshia Claredon comes into this game averaging 11.7 points while shooting 46.6 percent from the field. The Liberty should try to push the pace in this game just to try and get a little more offense going.
On the other side of this matchup is the Phoenix Mercury who have found success inside the bubble and coming into this game they have won five games in a row. In the Mercury’s last game against the Indiana Fever, the offense was elite putting up 105 points. Skyler Diggins-Smith and Diana Taurasi led the team with both players putting up at least 27 points.
The Mercury are averaging 87.9 points per game while the defense is giving up 84.5 points per game. Diana Taurasi is the best player for the Mercury averaging 19.7 points while shooting 42.9 percent from the field. In this game to win the Mercury need their defense to step up and run up the score.
The Liberty just aren’t on the talent level of the Mercury and that is going to be the case in this one. Look for the Mercury to run up the score and the Liberty’s offense to struggle and that will lead to the Mercury winning this game and covering the spread.
