The New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun face off in their 14th game of the WNBA season inside the bubble at IMG Academy on Saturday.
The Connecticut Sun have been up and down this season and they are coming off a really bad loss in their last game against the Las Vegas Aces. In the Aces last game the Sun really struggled on the defensive side giving up 99 points and that led to the loss. On offense in the last game, the Sun only had three players who were scoring in double figures. On the season the Sun are averaging 79.6 points per game while their defense is giving up 81.8 points per game. The best player all season for the Sun has been DeWanna Bonner who is averaging 18.3 points per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field. One of the big reasons this squad has struggled at times is because they really don’t have any three point specialists to bail them out when they need a big shot.
On the other side of this matchup is the New York Liberty who knew this season might be filled with struggles and that is exactly what has happened.Coming into this game the Liberty have lost six games in a row and they have struggled all over the court. In the last game against the Seattle Storm the defense gave up 105 points while their offense only scored 64 points. Kia Nurse was the best player for the Liberty in that last game putting up 21 points, but outside of her no one really stepped up for the team.
On the season the Liberty are averaging 73.5 points per game while shooting only 37 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from deep. The defense has also really struggled this season letting opponents shoot 47.3 percent from the field and letting up 89.6 points per game.
The Sun might not have the most success this season, but they have been no where close as bad as the Liberty. Look for the for the Liberty to struggle to score again and that will lead to the Sun covering the spread.
