The Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury face off in their tenth game of the WNBA season inside the bubble at IMG Academy on Friday.
To say the Atlanta Dream have struggled this season might be an understatement. The Dream won two of their first three games of the season but since that point they have lost six games in a row. In the last game against the Seattle Storm the defense struggled big-time giving up 100 points and that led to the loss. In the Dream’s last game they also only 63 points. The Dream’s best player in the last game was Betnijan Laney who is averaging 17 points.
On the season the Dream are averaging 80.2 points while giving up 90.9 points per game The defense is going to need to be good if they want any chance to come away with a victory. The best player this season has been Chennedy Carter who is averaging 17 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Phoenix Mercury who have been ultra inconsistent this year and they come into this game having lost two of the last three games. In the last game against the Chicago Sky the defense really struggled giving up 89 points and that led to the loss. The offense also only scored 71 points in that game. On the season the Mercury are averaging 86.8 points per game while giving up 85.4 points per game.
The best player this season for the Mercury has been Brittney Griner who is averaging 17.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Diana Taurasi is dealing with a hip injury and it’s unclear exactly when she will be back.
These are two teams who can’t really be trusted that much, but in this game the play is with the Mercury. The Mercury are the better team and they should have no issue coming away with the victory and cover in this game. Look for Griner to have a big game.
