The Las Vegas Aces and Washington Mystics face off in their fifth WNBA game Wednesday inside the WNBA bubble at the IMG Academy.
The Las Vegas Aces biggest issue so far this season has been with their inconsistency. To start the season the Aces were competitive but they struggled in the 4th quarter and that led to a two point loss against the Chicago Sky. In the second game the Aces had their best offensive output of the game putting up 100 points and that led to a blowout victory against the Atlanta Dream. In the third game the Aces offense was good again, but putting up 95 points, but the Aces defense struggled giving up 102 points. In the 4th game the Aces played a slower paced game, with the Dallas Wings and that led to a 79=70 victory.
The Aces are led by A’Ja Wilson who comes into this game averaging 19.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. In the last game, Wilson was strong putting up 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. In this game if the Aces are going to win, they need Wilson to have a big game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Washington Mystics who have found a lot of success this season winning their first three games inside the bubble before losing their last game against the Chicago Sky. The Mystics offense has been elite this season averaging 92.5 points per game while the defense has been giving up 81.5 points. In the Mystics last game they struggled in the first quarter putting up only 15 points and although it was tied after three quarters, they came away with a two point loss.
The Mystics best player this season has been Ariel Atkins who is averaging 18.8 points while shooting 59.5 percent of the field. Aerial Powers has also been good this season hitting 18 points while 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Mystics are the better team, but the Aces have proven they are going to be a competitive team all season . It might not be the prettiest game for the Aces but they are going to find enough success to keep this game close.
