The Seattle Storm and the Washington Mystics face off in their third game of the WNBA season inside the bubble at IMG Academy on Thursday.
The Washington Mystics have looked impressive so far this year winning each of their two games so far this year. To start the season the Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 101-76 and in the second game, it was much the same with the Mystics winning 94-89. This an elite offensive team and they will try to run up the score again in this game. On offense the Mystics are led by Aerial Powers and Myisha Hines-Allen are averaging 21.5 points. Powers is hitting 55 percent of her shots from deep and if they can’ continue to light up the scoreboard from deep, they are going to have a chance to continue to have a lot of success this season.
On the other side of this matchup is the Seattle Storm who have also looked really good so far this season. Winning each of their first two games. In the first game the Storm beat the New York Liberty 87-71 and in the second game, it was much the same with the Storm winning 90-66. The offense the Storm is strong, but what their defense has done might even be more impressive. In the last game against the Lynx, Seattle gave up 13 points in the 1st quarter and 14 in the 4th quarter, enough to come away with a blowout victory. The star of the show for the Storm has been Breanna Stewart who is averaging 18 points per game. Sue Bird has also been strong for the team putting up 13.5 points and 4.5 assists. Sue Bird has been finding a lot of success from deep hitting 63.6 percent of the shots from behind the arc.
These are both good offenses, but the better defensive squad has been the Seattle Storm and that will be the difference in this game. There will still be plenty of scoring by both squads, but the Storm’s defense will step up enough to come away with a victory.
