The Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky face off on Sunday afternoon at IMG Academy in their first game of the series.
The Las Vegas Aces have to feel good about what they did last season winning 21 games and they went all the way to the WNBA Semifinals. As impressive as last season was for the Aces there has to be concern about how the team will perform last season. Two of the best players in the WNBA Liz Cambage and Kelsey Plum have both decided to sit out this season. The good news for this season is they did bring in Angel McCoughtry who could be a difference-maker for this squad who they hope can have a strong season.
On the other side of this matchup is the Chicago Sky who were also good last season sitting finishing with 20 wins and advancing to the second round of the playoffs. The Sky are a team that might be being overlooked heading into this season. Some players that could have big seasons include Gabby Williams, Azurá Stevens and Diamond DeShields. With so many other teams missing a lot of other players heading into the season the Sky have a similar roster, and that could help them with all the weird quirks of this season. In this game to have success the Sky need to get out to a fast start. If they can jump out to the quick start the Aces could become discouraged and that would be the difference.
Chicago is 4-2 against the spread in their last six games played against Las Vegas. Las Vegas is 5-2 straight up against Chicago in the last seven games. Five of the last seven games played between Chicago and Las Vegas have gone over the total.
The Aces are missing a lot of players and that is going to really hurt them in this game. The Sky are the better offensive team and they will have no issue in this game. The Sky will run up the score and come away with a runaway victory in this game.
