Former champion Jannik Sinner will face World No. 51 Daniel Altmaier in the first round of the 2025 Vienna Open on Wednesday, October 22. Here’s our Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier prediction. This preview will also include a Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier pick.
Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier Preview
Jannik Sinner is the top seed at the Vienna Open, where he is returning to the ATP 500 event for the first time since 2023. That year, Sinner won the title in Vienna, beating Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the final. Before that, Sinner had reached the semifinals and quarterfinals in Vienna.
Sinner has compiled 46 wins and 6 losses in 2025, with Carlos Alcaraz accounting for at least four of those losses and he is the only man to beat him multiple times this season. Sinner has won three titles and played in all four Grand Slam finals this year, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon and finishing runner-up at the French Open and US Open.
Daniel Altmaier is ranked a spot outside the top 50 and the German is making his second visit to Vienna. He played there in 2023 and lost in the first round to Gael Monfils in straight sets. Altmaier has a lifetime record of 65-43 on indoor hard courts and has played 10 matches on the surface this season, and has a 5-5 record. He is coming off a first-round defeat in Brussels this past week.
Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier Head-To-Head
Sinner and Altmaier have played three times and met as recently as the Shanghai Masters at the start of October. Sinner won that match 6-3, 6-3. The Italian has a 2-1 head-to-head record, having also beaten Altmaier at the 2022 US Open in five sets. Altmaier’s only victory over Sinner was a big one. He knocked out Sinner in the second round of the 2023 French Open in five sets.
Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier Prediction
While their first two meetings were extremely close, both lasting five sets at the Grand Slam level, Sinner easily overpowered Altmaier in Shanghai earlier this month in straight sets. And the conditions couldn’t get any worse for Altmaier, who will face the World No. 2 indoors in Vienna, where Sinner is almost unplayable in that setting.
