Victoria Mboko vs Karolina Muchova Preview
Victoria Mboko masterminded another huge upset this week as she beat last year’s finalist Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets. Mboko hit 6 aces and 4 double faults in the victory. She won 69% of first serve points and converted five of nine break points. Mboko withstood a quick start from Ostapenko to ease to a 6-3, 6-2 victory that seals her Top 10 breakthrough in the WTA rankings next week.
Mboko will contest her second final of the season and fourth overall at the WTA level. She won two titles during her breakout season in 2025, the biggest of those being the WTA 1000 in Montreal in her home country last summer. And she added a second title to her collection in Hong Kong. Mboko has lost one final, and that happened in Adelaide during the opening weeks of the 2026 season to Mirra Andreeva.
Karolina Muchova defeated an in-form Maria Sakkari to reach her first final since the 2024 China Open. Muchova trailed Sakkari by a set and a break in the second semifinal on Friday, but reeled off five games in a row to lead the second set 5-2. Although she stumbled while serving for the set at 5-3 up, she broke Sakkari in the 10th game to win the set 6-4.
The final set was one-way traffic as Muchova secured multiple breaks to complete the comeback win. Before this victory, Muchova had not lost a set, beating Cristian, Valentova, Pliskova (retirement) and Kalinskaya. The Czech will get the chance to win her second WTA title.
