Denis Shapovalov and Adam Walton meet in the semifinal of the 2025 Los Cabos Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 18. Here’s our Denis Shapovalov vs Adam Walton prediction. This preview will also include a Denis Shapovalov vs Adam Walton pick.
Denis Shapovalov vs Adam Walton Preview
Denis Shapovalov is the third seed in Los Cabos. This is his first appearance at the event. Shapovalov earned a straight-sets win over American qualifier Govind Nanda in his opening match. He dropped just three games in a 61-minute rout. The Canadian smashed 25 winners and 24 unforced errors in a 6-1, 6-2 victory. He accounted for four aces and three double faults in the match. Shapovalov landed 47% of first serves in play and won 73% of first serve points (16/22). He was only broken once in the match.
Because he is a seed, he only needed to win once to reach the quarterfinals. And he put in another clinic to down Australia’s Tristan Schoolkate in straight sets. Shapovalov spent an hour 18 minutes to record a 6-3, 6-2 victory. He hit 26 winners and 35 unforced errors, including 10 aces and four double faults. Shapovalov landed 65% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (25/36). He saved one of two break points. Shapovalov improves to 17-14 for the season and is looking to win his second title of the year, which will be the best possible result before heading to Canada to play in a Masters tournament on home soil. The 26-year-old can return to the world’s Top 30 after this week. Shapovalov has a 9-6 record on hard courts this season, and this is his first semifinal since Acapulco.
Adam Walton is the eighth seed in Los Cabos. The World No. 97 is also competing for the first time in this ATP 250 event. Walton began the week in the first round, beating the talented Pacheco Mendez in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2 in just under two hours. In the second round, he demolished American Next Gen star Nishesh Basavareddy 6-1, 6-0 in just 62 minutes. Walton unleashed 14 winners to just 7 unforced errors. He lost five points behind his first serve in a dominant performance.
In the quarterfinal, Walton faced countryman James Duckworth, and he won the all-Aussie clash in three sets. He dropped his first set in the tournament 6-3, but won the next two pretty convincingly 6-3, 6-4. Once more, his attacking game proved effective, as he hammered 24 winners and 31 unforced errors. That included 10 aces and five double faults. This is his first semifinal at any level since he reached the Busan Challenger final in April.
Denis Shapovalov vs Adam Walton Head-To-Head
Shapovalov and Walton have met once on the ATP Tour. The Canadian won that meeting at this year’s Indian Wells in straight sets.
Denis Shapovalov vs Adam Walton Prediction
This is one of those weeks where everything Shapovalov touches turns to gold. And when he is playing with this kind of freedom and attacking intent and not missing much, then you cannot argue he’s almost unbeatable. Walton’s serving has been stellar, so he can at least make this a lot closer than when they played in Indian Wells. With potentially one tie-break or a 7-5 set, I’m looking at the overs here.
