Sofia Kenin enters her 21st tournament of the season in Seoul. This is her second appearance in the South Korean capital. She lost in the opening round in her only previous visit two years ago. Kenin is ranked 31st in the WTA rankings, but has been on a woeful run of form in the second half of 2025.Kenin has posted a 25-20 record so far, having lost four matches in a row before this week’s Seoul Open. The American’s last victory was in late July when she beat Hailey Baptiste in the first round of the Washington Open.
Laura Siegemund is 44th in the WTA rankings. The 37-year-old is taking part in the Seoul Open for the first time. Siegemund is 20-19 for the season and last competed at the US Open at the end of August. She reached the third round courtesy of wins over Diana Shnaider and Anastasia Zakharova.
Siegemund has had good results at different periods this season, but no result would top off her quarterfinal run at Wimbledon, where she sensationally upset Madison Keys and was close to beating Aryna Sabalenka. Siegemund will compete in her 20th tournament of the season.
